I first heard of The Tunics when the were supporting Nada Surf about a year ago. The Tunics are, and I quote, “a proper f*cking guitar band” (Joe Costello, lead singer). Indeed they are. Forget all the copycat Joy Division bands, The Tunics take you back to brit pop’s heyday. Their first album came out two years ago. The single Shine On was featured on the Zweiohrkken soundtrack which earned the band quite a bit of a fanbase in Germany.
I saw them a second time when they did a small show at the Rosi’s while recording their second album in Berlin. They even devoted one of their new songs to our beloved city. I believe that the video for Shine On was also recorded at the Rosi’s but I’m not entirely sure. See for yourself! Anyhow, that gig was easily one of the greatest concerts I’ve ever been to (yes, I prefer the small intimate ones).
Their gig celebrates the release of their second album which is just as good as the first one (you should pick up both at the gig if you haven’t already). There’s no better place to celebrate the album’s release than the place in which they recorded it, right? It’s gonna be a hell of a night, I promise!
